(Montville, New Jersey) February 20, 2017 ‐ Gwynne Shotwell, President and Chief Operating Officer of
Space Exploration Technologies Corporation – better known as SpaceX – visited Marotta Controls’
headquarters in Montville, New Jersey.
A key partner and supplier to SpaceX, Marotta Controls welcomed Ms. Shotwell to speak with the leadership team and employees about the importance of Marotta’s dedication to SpaceX’s mission and programs. Shotwell also answered questions, toured the facility, and met members of the production team that engineers, manufactures, tests and qualifies various systems used on the Falcon 9 and Dragon spacecraft.
Marotta’s high‐quality products, innovative engineering, flexibility and adaptability are key to success when working with a progressive company like SpaceX. Marotta’s technologies used in applications including tank pressurization, stage separation, landing leg deployment and attitude control comprise a substantial number of components which are on every Falcon 9 launch.
Led by the vision of Elon Musk, SpaceX designs, manufactures and launches advanced rockets and spacecraft. For over 14 years, Marotta Controls has engineered and manufactured mission‐critical components for SpaceX, becoming a key supplier and long‐term partner providing manifolds, solenoid valves, check valves and regulators.
“Re‐engineering and evolving our heritage components to align with SpaceX’s goal of launch reusability is a continual priority for us,” according to Steve Fox, Marotta’s Vice President of Engineering and Chief Technology Officer. “Our team is responsive, adaptive and continuously focused on producing the highest quality product possible,” he added.
Marotta also anticipates partnering with SpaceX on their next‐generation launch vehicle, dubbed Falcon
Heavy, planned to lift off later this year.
